Party Smart! Party Hard!

In this month’s festive and party spirit, while most of us are excited to dance all night to our favorite party numbers, some of us are worried about our sartorial choices for these parties. An office Christmas party adds more pressure on us to dress up. It is easier to add songs to a party playlist as compared to selecting an outfit to dance to “Party karni hai! Hum party karenge! Kisi ke bhi papa se nahi darenge!” :P
I know that many of you girls are fidgeting, looking at your closet, and wondering what to wear to your office parties. These  parties require you to look glam yet formal and you may succumb into the pressure of buying a new party dress.

Do not fear, MyFadedDenim is not going to stop you from buying a new party dress. This post is about using an accessory or clothing item in more than one way. For example, I bought the red earrings (that I am wearing in the pictures below) to wear them with a cream-colored saree for a wedding. But while embracing the Christmas spirit, I paired them with my formal party outfit. Similarly, I bought the sequin tee for an evening event. However, it is evident from the pictures that sequins look equally good during the day as well. I got the black skirt from Marks&Spencer during their sale. A nice linen skirt is all I wanted for my summer travels. Little did I know that I could style it and make it a party attire. I know that we all have enough clothes and accessories in our closets that we can wear in many ways. Don't let that gold jewelry go stale in your lockers. Pair a gold necklace with a plain crop top and a maxi skirt to add an Indian twist to the outfit. Or you can also pair your crop top with a saree to give a modern twist to it.

I will post more articles about mixing and matching clothes and accessories. Till then, I leave you with pictures of my formal party outfit for an office Christmas party.:)

One Girly Element

I love denims for their versatility. The blog title makes this obvious! I even wrote the 'Evolving Denim Trends – How to wear them now!' post about it. :)

I have been craving distressed jeans for a long time now. After a lot of searching and trials, I've finally found my perfect pair of distressed jeans. Ting! (showing off my teeth in happiness :P).
I still doubt if I can ever pull off “ripped jeans” (my mother named it, “bhikari jeans”). Which reminds me of a scene from The Mindy Project where Danny says, “Why do people wear torn jeans? the only hole these people have is in their brains.” :P Though I truly believe that if ripped jeans are styled appropriately, not only do they look RAD but also your style quotient rises immensely. More importantly, one should be able to carry them off without making oneself look like a bhikari! Katrina Kaif could look good in almost anything and everything. Random thoughts aside, back to my fascination for distressed jeans. I bought these distressed jeans (wearing them in the post) from Zara. When buying them, I thought of wearing them only with a plain tee. But the styling ka keeda in me wanted to break out and to try something new and different (cliché, I know! :P).
While putting the pieces together to style this look, I realized something important – when wearing distressed jeans or ripped jeans, add that ONE GIRLY ELEMENT  (unless you are going for the absolute street look or sporty look). Here is a FOOL PROOF TIP – add one girly element like stilettos. Wear a chic blazer to go for a semi-formal look. A pretty floral top can also help in balancing out the rowdiness of the ripped jeans. An example is Anushka Sharma's P.K. look. She is wearing pretty pastel colored sweaters with ripped jeans.

Check out the pictures below to see how I have styled my look with distressed denims. We found a wonderful opportunity to shoot inside the beautiful Taj Deccan, Hyderabad.

How beautiful and innovative is the idea to display spices in a Restro.

Stairway to Royalty

Usually when I travel with Mr.husband, he makes sure that we are in total comfort. Be it the travelling part, the stay part, or the sightseeing part, we plan with keeping the “travel in style plus travel in comfort” mantra in mind. But, the entire Udaipur trip was based on another mantra, “Budget travelling”. Since seven of us were going for the trip, we wanted to make most of it. Imagine seven crazy friends travelling together – complete laugh riot. That is exactly what got us through our 20-hour road journey from Mumbai to Udaipur.:)
Our stay was at UdaiNiwas - a small hotel situated in the midst of the narrow lanes of Udaipur. I loved the décor of the hotel rooms. The walls are decorated with intricate traditional motifs and a vivid splash of colors. The hotel has free Wi-Fi as well. The view from the hotel top was so breathtaking that no sooner than we reached there, we were at the rooftop with our tripods and started capturing the scene.
This place is the epicenter for all tourists visiting Udaipur. Both the famous Jagdish temple and Lake Pichola are 2min walks from the hotel and The City palace is a 5min walk. During our rooftop dinners, I would feel like just sitting there without looking at the time and admire the serene beauty of the lake and the glittering lights of the palaces.

The City Palace is full of history, art, and beautiful architecture. You must take time to view every corner of the palace as every wall in the palace has a story to tell. A fair warning - be ready to climb 1000 steps! This is an exaggeration, but trust me on this one, if you have weak legs, I suggest - not be too adventurous. Next, do not miss the boat ride from the City Palace to Jag Mandir. That boat ride is “paisa vasool”! Also, the place is super beautiful for you to do some gorgeous landscape photography.
We visited the place during one of the best times, i.e Dassera. The city celebrates Dassera with the furor shared only with Mumbaikars during the Ganpati festival. The decorations are spectacular and the cultural events on the streets are one of a kind. We were lucky to watch an “India's got talent” types show on the streets.
Even though we had a car-for-seven booked for sightseeing, we were forced to travel in a larger-than-normal auto rickshaw because of the narrow streets. The streets are so narrow that a car cannot make a U turn. Then again, you must walk through the beautiful street markets and take advantage of shopping: I am not complaining:P. The markets have a wide range of silver jewellery, gift items, leather, and footwear. You will find unique designs here for a reasonable price.

Udaipur is amongst the cleanest tourist spots in India. Both the streets and the air are clean here. This explains why we found more foreign tourists here. I think the reason for this is the difference in commute – you can enjoy this place only on foot. So travel light, dress summery, and have the time of your life.:)

List of places that you should definitely visit when in Udaipur:
1. Jagdish Temple
2. City Palace
3. Jag Mandir via Lake Pichola
4. Cultural show at Bagore ki haveli
5. Maharana Pratap Museum
6. Haldi Ghati (do take pictures on that road)
7. Fatehsagar Lake
8. Street Shopping

Food delicacies that you should try when in Udaipur:
1. Yummylicious Kachoris (drool worthy!)
2. Fafda and Jalebi combo
3. Poha and Pakoras
4. Big rajasthani thali
5. A meal at Ambrai

Evolving Denim Trends – How to wear them now!

The engineered jeans, stone washed jeans, classic fit, boot-cut, flared, slim fit, skinny, straight fit, distressed jeans, and denim cut-offs – who would have thought that a pair of denims can be categorized under such terms.
Denims started off as utility pants made for the working class for their durability and inexpensiveness. Iconic stars like Elvis Presley and Marlon Brando were amongst those who made the jeans look 'cool' and, eventually, made it popular amongst teens. The ideals of comfort and warmth have transitioned into something super sexy, skinny, and bootylicious.

From classic mom jeans to distressed ripped jeans, denims have come a long way. The 50s started out with everyday comfort jeans and then, with the evolution of rock culture, the high waist skinnies dominated. Audrey Hepburn was the initiator of the ankle length pants/jeans style. Bell bottom jeans and stone washed jeans were the fashion choices for the 70s funk and pop culture. The 90s started off with the awful 'lowest' baggy jeans trend but later on, the high-waist straight fit denim caught on. The F.R.I.E.N.D.S cast (Rachel and Monica) made the straight fit jeans with crop top really popular.
Segue to the 21st century, the jeans community is trending globally. Celebs like Miley Cyrus have been sporting mom jeans and baggy jeans. Sarah Jessica Parker is the reason for making the boyfriend jeans our wardrobe staple.

Trust these tips to make your faded distressed denims look uber chic and fashionable.:)

The Classic High Rise

Sarah Jessica Parker carries off this classic pair of denims with a crop top and spiked heels. For a sporty twist, wear it with a cropped tee and a pair of sneakers.

Mom Jeans

Mom jeans have made a strong comeback and the streets of London are adorning the mom jeans in style. Check out Miley Cyrus teaming this pair with a chic blazer. For a comfort look, pair it with a bralet and a kimono.

The Boot Cut Denim

Inspired by bell bottoms, boot-cut denims are perfect for skinny or apple shaped women. Wear them with wedges or heels and they instantly add inches to your shape.

The Boyfriend Jeans

Always add a touch of feminity when wearing a pair of boyfriend jeans. This style helps you to balance out the loose fit of the jeans. Pair them with pointy heels and curl up the ends for a chic look.

The Slouchy/Baggy Jeans

After the 90s trend of “drop-down” baggy jeans, this style has made a comeback and petite girls are wearing slouchy jeans again. Check how Miley Cyrus wears them with an edgy rock chic look.

Even though denim jeans have evolved a lot, a classic pair of jeans is all you need to strut any look and to pin you as a fashionista. :)
