Happy and Proud of it

Recently, at a party, a guy man offered me a drink. I understand that a glass of red wine won’t hurt, but I was getting late, my cab was ready, and all I wanted to do was say my goodbyes and leave. After refusing the drink an exaggerated number of times, he offered me the Cuban Cigar he was puffing away. This time, I declined with a bit of rudeness and dose of sarcasm. It was clear that he wasn’t taking the incessant refusal well (his ego was getting hurt!). While these events were unfolding, he gave me a passive introduction of his sari-clad wife who was having her own kitty party with other similarly dressed ladies. That’s when it struck me - he wouldn’t offer a drink or cigar to these women (guess why!).
There is an automatic perception that a woman in an Indian attire is truly Sanskaari!
Assumptions are today’s evil! My outfit does not imply that I have not been brought up as a Sanskaari girl. I wear what I want because I feel happy and proud wearing it.

On a lighter note and speaking about being happy and proud of it, let’s discuss my favorite women-centric TV shows. I am a movie buff and TV series addict. I say addict because I prefer to watch TV series marathons. Even though some of my favorite shows are The Arrow, Suits, and Brooklyn99 (hot or super cute leading actors:P), it is the leading ladies who inspire me to be strong, powerful, and to follow my dreams:

1) The Mindy Project
Right from the theme song to Mindy’s signature line, “Hey man”, I love it all! Her character is full of energy, extremely funny, chatty, a little nut crack, and she is bitten by the Katy Perry and Chris Hemsworth bug (just as I am!:)). She can wear sequins, the brightest colors, and 9 bracelets at a time and still manage to look awesome.

2) Ugly Betty
America Ferrara might have vanished after Ugly Betty, but her character as Betty is still alive and a break through. A short plump girl, with braces,  big glasses, disheveled hair, and without a fashion sense, works closely with a fashion magazine editor. Her character is the epitome of “being comfortable in one’s own skin”.

3) The Ellen Show
‘The Ellen Show’ is one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen. In 2014, Ellen hosted the Oscars and nailed it. Her quirky sense of humor and spontaneity is always bang on!

4) Jane the Virgin
In a rare feat, the plot of “Jane the Virgin” is the HERO of this show – every episode is full of high drama and is hilarious! Jane, the main protagonist, is an instant hit with her beautiful smile and effervescent personality.

5) Grey’s Anatomy
As much as I love Meredith Grey’s life quotes, it is Christina Yang who creates the real magic on this show. Her badass attitude, intelligence, and total confidence to speak her mind make her character totally unpredictable and dynamic.

In this post, I am featuring the SELFMADE tee by Cupcakes and Closet and the pretty mint-colored flats by Bowtoes. Bowtoe’s collection of flats and ballerinas are a must see! Finally, here’s wishing all you lovely ladies a very HAPPY WOMENS DAY! Let’s continue being happy and proud of being SELFMADE.:)
