Summer Tales

It has been a while since I have blogged and I blame it on the scorching heat and dreadful Hyderabad summer. :P While people enjoy the summer by wearing sundresses, sipping on ice cold mojitos, and getting tanned on the beach, I live in a place where the summer temperatures go up to 40 degrees and my only option is to binge watch on a TV series! PS: Loving Scandal!!

The words “summer vacation” immediately take me back to my school days. The anxiety and excitement level used to be high during the last day of exam. I would look forward to playing with friends everyday. Games like chuppa chuppi, pakda padki, and langdi, were our favorites. Not to brag but I was great at badminton too (*relinquishes the title to Saina Nehwal*). :P

One of my most loved memories of summers is spending time at the grandparents’ house and of eating umpteen mangoes without any guilt.:) My grandparents lived in a place that looked right out of Malgudi Days. It was a row house in a small town surrounded by beautiful gardens. These were huge gardens with mango trees and we would pluck away to make pickles or to just savor them as is. Just for the heck of it, we would rob mangoes from the neighbor’s gardens. The house also had a large terrace where we all would sleep during the hot summer nights. I was awestruck by the fact that kadipatta was picked from the back door veranda for cooking. We even had a nukkad ka bakery guy who would stock fatafat golis for us.

Once in a while, my cousins and I would dress up and go to the main market. Even now I start salivating with the thought of the samosa chaat that we used have (the best ever!!). Renting a VCR and and watching a movie with the entire family was nothing less than a celebration!!

Summer days are incomplete without a beautiful summer dress. Here I am not going for the usual sundress but wearing a beautiful kurti that was a gift from Kashmir. Hope you guys enjoyed reading about my summer tales and also my take on a summery outfit.
